The Ford Mustang is one of the best known and easily recognized vehicles on the road today. Who doesn't recognize the sporty chrome pony emblazoned on the shiny paint of a Ford Mustang? But I bet many of you don't know the history of the Mustang. Well jump in your time capsule and join me for a ride back to the year 1964. To be more specific, March 9, 1964. That was the day that the first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line it was a white convertible with a red interior. It created a sensation all across the nation. As a matter of fact, within 18 months, Ford sold over 1 million Mustangs! Just months after its introduction, Ford began introducing changes for the '65, Mustang including a bigger engine, reverse lights, and an AC alternator. In the first two years of its existence, broke sales records, wowed the public, and left competitors in the dust. The next job for the Mustang was to take down the Chevrolet Corvette in the world of racing. That job was tackled by Carroll Shelby, the famous race car driver and designer. The result was the famous GT / Cobra series of cars. In 1967, Ford introduced a newly redesigned Mustang, with a 335 HP engine, and other improvements, allowing it to continue it's massive popularity. Ford continued to make improvements and adjustments to the Mustang, and it remained highly popular, even when rising gas prices, rising insurance costs, emissions standards, etc caused muscle cars some hard times in the early 70's. Several of the Mustangs competitors, such as the Barracuda, went out of production, but the Ford continued to sell. The Ford Mustang almost died in the late 80's, though, due to slumping sales. But Mustang fans started writing Ford letters, and Ford decided to give the Mustang a redesign and another try. Sales went back up, and the Mustang continues to be a popular car to this day.Somebody once asked me why I was so fascinated with Mustangs. You know, its hard for an outsider looking in to understand why we muscle car lovers are so fanatical about our classic cars, . Until theyve been behind the wheel of a newly restored Mustang, they just havent a clue. Mustang Dreams!Why is it that we can browse through muscle car advertisements for hours on end? Why do we have to go to every muscle car show that comes near our town? Why do we drive out of our way to see some of the hottest Classic Cars around? Why do we seemingly pour all of our extra money into our muscle cars? Some people think a passion for muscle cars comes from peer pressure a need to impress other people per se. As a SVO Mustang enthusiast I can honestly say thats not it, at least not for me. My interest in muscle cars dates way back to before I was ever concerned about what anybody thought. I have always found muscle cars to be fascinating and exciting. First, Mustangs are original. Those who collect or restore Mustang put their heart and soul into their hobby which makes every muscle car truly unique. Second, muscle cars are powerful. Theres nothing that gets the adrenaline pumping quite like sitting behind the wheel of a Mustang, high-performance muscle car. Third, when you take classic cars, ,Mustang or restore it and muscle it up, you really have something to be proud of. Its a lot like an artistic ability for me like taking a blank canvas and creating an incredible piece of art out of it. One thing is for certain, regardless of the reason a muscle car devotee is interested in muscle cars, We all have Mustang Dreams, we all seem to talk the same talk and walk the same walk. Dealing with classic cars, is an incredible social outlet. Whether we collect, restore, show, or race our muscle cars, it doesnt matter. Were all on the same wavelength and we truly enjoy looking at and chatting about muscle cars. Some enthusiasts have specific lines of muscle cars that they are interested in, while others are just crazy about muscle cars in general. Some like imports, others like exports, and most all muscle car enthusiasts have a strong interest in classics. We can look at them, talk about them, drive them, or just work on them. Muscle cars give us something to look forward to, something fun to invest our time and money into, and the muscle car hobby keeps us out of trouble for the most part. You are someone with a taste for excitement, speed and the thrill of power... You insist on owning the very best that money can buy...Let's face it, there is no other car in the world quite like a Mustang. This is usually one of those events where you can find lots of car lovers, aficionados, followers, and simple car enthusiasts .
